How does your conversation in English class work?

The goal is to practice speaking English spontaneously, so I don't want you to memorize answers. We'll practice "off the cuff" speaking, which is an important skill to master. Speaking in this way is left out of many English language courses, so I want to provide an interesting and challenging option for advanced learners to continue perfecting their English. Classes have a maximum of 6 people, so everyone gets plenty of talking time and you can get to know each other. 

Here's how a typical class might operate...

Class Structure:

- Duration: 60 minutes

- Maximum Participants: 6

Introduction (5 minutes)

• I welcome participants and briefly outlines the class's structure and objectives.

• Participants introduce themselves, sharing their names, countries of origin, and one interesting thing about themselves.

Warm-Up Activity (5 minutes)

I present a quick ice-breaker game to get everyone comfortable. This could be a simple "Two Truths and a Lie" game or a quick vocabulary challenge related to the day's fun fact topic.

Presentation of the Fun Fact (5 minutes)

I introduce the day's fun fact, which serves as the theme for the class. For example, the fun fact might be about a cultural festival, a scientific discovery, or a historical event.

Vocabulary Discussion (5 minutes)

Participants discuss the new vocabulary words introduced with the fun fact. I provide definitions, uses them in sentences, and asks participants to do the same.

Breakout Discussions (15 minutes)

• Participants are divided into pairs in breakout rooms to discuss questions related to the fun fact. These questions are designed to provoke thought, encourage debate, and require the use of the day's vocabulary.

• Each breakout room has a set of questions to guide the discussion, and participants are encouraged to share their opinions, experiences, and questions.

Group Discussion and Sharing (15 minutes)

• After the breakout sessions, the class reconvenes for a group discussion. Each pair shares a summary of their discussion, interesting points raised, and any questions they might have.

• The instructor facilitates the discussion, ensuring that each participant has an opportunity to speak and contribute.

Activity or Game (5 minutes)

We'll do a quick activity or game that incorporates the fun fact and vocabulary. This could be a quiz, a role-play scenario, or a storytelling activity.

Recap and Homework (3 minutes)

• I recap the key points of the class, including the vocabulary words and main discussion topics.

Feedback and Goodbyes (2 minutes)

• I'll ask for quick feedback on what you enjoyed or found challenging.
